Here is a copy of letter sent by Monsanto to a Canadian farmer in 1998. It states that Monsanto investigators have found evidence of its patented GMO rapeseed on the farmer's fields and demands a payment of $28,750 "prior to making any final decision as to what steps we will be taking", provided that the farmer acknowledges that Monsanto can take samples from his land and silos for the next three years, and that he also agrees not to disclose the matter to any third party!
Canadian farmers describe this practice as "extortion" by Monsanto.
